What’s inside Excel Everest? Tutorial Contents Part 11

Continuing on with our “What’s inside Excel Everest?”, which showcases the introductory, “why is this important?” paragraphs found within Excel Everest.

…why is it important to learn?..

Text formulas

We’ll start our excel lessons on formulas by learning how text is manipulated in Excel. The ability to fluidly work with text inside cells is one of the more important things you need to know in Excel. Often, you’ll find yourself with a dataset that’s a bit messy and doesn’t have what you want in the way you want it. Maybe, for example, you’ll be given a first and last name but you want them combined into one name. Text formulas will let you do this, and are great companions to other functions that let you work with text in Excel (Text-to-Columns, Find and Replace, and Autofilters).

In order to manipulate text in Excel, you need to know how to properly use quotes within a formula (in order to leave spaces between text items, etc), how to use ampersands, and how to use the formulas Right(), Left(), and Trim().
